Courage Museum Q&A: Cultivating Courageous Educators

What’s the purpose of the Courage Museum’s professional learning institute for teachers?

Lauren Trout, Senior Program Associate, WestEd:

The Professional Learning Institute, through the Courage Museum, is designed for educators ultimately to build community, to tell stories, to practice courage, and support these conditions for a change and activism. So, we really want to design a professional learning experience that, again, is unique in that we’re really trying to provide experiential space for people to, for educators to first be people, to be humans, and to get to explore these ideas themselves in their own reflection and formation. And then really fold that into skill building and capacity building from an education perspective. And the idea is that inside of community building and critical reflection and storytelling and practicing these ideas of like sustaining courage, by offering that in professional development, in this space of professional learning, or excuse me, a professional learning institute, that we are offering an experience that is modeled and can be taken back into the classroom.
