(Past Event) California NGSS Statewide Implementation: Building Student Sensemaking Through Disciplinary Literacy

NGSS Statewide Implementation Event

Join WestEd’s K-12 Alliance and the California Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Collaborative for the CA NGSS Statewide Implementation Professional Learning.

This online learning experience is designed for K-12 academic coaches, administrators, curriculum leads, and teacher leaders to deepen their understanding and implementation of teaching practices to advance student science understanding through disciplinary literacy. The learning sessions are divided into four science and literacy-specific strands: reading, notebooking, discourse, and argumentation.

Participants register for one strand per event where they will experience grade-band specific instructional strategies, engage in collaborative reflection, develop a classroom plan of action to implement with students, where student work will be generated and then collaboratively reviewed during  subsequent online follow-up meetings.

Dates & Times: The online experience is 12 hours in total and is offered with different meeting options during the school year. This event will be repeated three times from January–March, 2021:

  • January 28–29, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m, PST. Register by January 6.
  • February 22–25, 4:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. PT. Register by February 1.
  • March 16, 17, 22, & 25, 8:30 a.m.–11:30 a.m. PT. Register by February 22.

Cost: Pricing varies depending on how many strands participants wish to take. The first strand is $250 per attendee and additional strands are $200 per attendee. Participants may choose up to 3 strands, (one strand per offering).
