NABE Conference

Join WestEd and partners at the 50th Annual National Association for Bilingual Education Conference (NABE) from April 27–29, 2021. The theme of this year’s conference is Honoring the Past, Treasuring the Present, and Shaping the Future.

As part of the two-day online and in-person conference, WestEd Senior Research Scientist Aída Walqui will present a virtual session highlighting the new IES-supported National Research & Development Center to Improve Education for Secondary English Learners.

Center researchers Ilana Umansky (University of Oregon) and Margaret Heritage (UCLA), and WestEd’s Haiwen Chu, Martha Palacios, Lee Hartman, and Mary Schmida will also participate in the session.

On April 29 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. (Central Time), Irisa Charney-Sirott and Sharon Sáez from WestEd’s Reading Apprenticeship program will present a session about the blending of social-emotional learning and academic literacy through Reading Apprenticeship. The presentation will explore how to use the Reading Apprenticeship approach to support middle and high school educators of every subject area face the challenge of helping students meet rigorous standards.
