Keynote presentation: Creating Meaningful Opportunities for Authentic Student, Family, and Stakeholder Voice
NCSI Panelists: Alexandria Harvey, Heather Calomese, Debra Jennings, Heath Peine, and Natasha Capers
Education systems, influenced by dominant culture, can sometimes prevent authentic partnerships among families and stakeholders who are vested in the success of marginalized students in their communities. This presentation will highlight the characteristics of the dominant culture and provide alternatives for establishing an equity mindset.
A panel of SEA and LEA leaders and parents will describe how they work to support and foster equitable mindsets in their specific contexts. At the end of the address, participants will know how to assess existing cultural norms in their contexts and examine what changes are needed to create authentic opportunities for partnerships that can improve learning and outcomes.
