(Past Event) KATE Program Research Study: Improve Reading Instruction and Student Comprehension

KATE Research Study

In Partnership with Texas A&M University, WestEd will examine the impact of the Knowledge Acquisition and Transformation Expansion (KATE) program, which aims to improve reading instruction and comprehension in socioeconomically and culturally diverse schools across the country. 

KATE can help support learning recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and help close achievement gaps. The program includes a supplemental web-based, adaptive tutoring intervention focused on reading comprehension for Grades 4 and 5.

Study Eligibility
WestEd is seeking school district participants to pilot the program during the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 school years at no cost and participate in the research study, which will focus on literacy instruction for all students in grades 4 and 5. Study participants will receive professional development and program implementation support throughout the year.

  • Teachers will receive $1,000 for study activities
