(Past Event) Knowledge Acquisition Transformation Expansion (KATE) for 4th and 5th Grade Comprehension Research Study Information Session

Webinar

Join WestEd for information sessions on the Knowledge Acquisition and Transformation Expansion (KATE) program. Sessions will be offered from January 18 through April 25.

WestEd is looking for school districts to participate in this study, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, starting in fall of the 2024/25 school year.

This program is free for districts through federal funding. Participating teachers will earn a stipend for participation.

About the Study

WestEd is working with researchers at Texas A&M University to expand the use of their evidence-based reading comprehension program. The reading comprehension intervention consists of practice-based professional development for teachers, teacher-led reading comprehension instruction, and a web-based tutoring platform to improve reading instruction and student comprehension.

The KATE program can be used with any texts and curricula currently in use. Four studies of this program reviewed by the What Works Clearinghouse have found it to have a strong, positive impact on reading comprehension for 4th and 5th grade students.
