Justice and Prevention

Enhancing community safety and well-being through data-driven strategies to prevent violence and crime, improve behavioral health outcomes, and improve public health and justice systems for children, youth, adults, and their families.

We conduct rigorous research and evaluation work and are a trusted source of evidence on the effects of policies and programs for children, young adults, and communities. In addition to conducting research and evaluation studies, we promote the use of scientific evidence in making decisions about programs, policies, and practices relevant to justice and prevention.

Justice and Prevention

What We Do

Throughout our research and evaluation work, we partner with government, foundation, community-based, and other organizations to conduct rigorous studies, lead policy analyses, provide evidence-informed technical assistance, and develop solutions in the areas of school and community safety, public health, violence prevention, and justice systems.

We help community and school systems

  • Address concerns about student and staff safety in our nation’s educational institutions
  • Work to eliminate the deep injustices in juvenile and adult justice systems that reflect a long history of bias and racial discrimination by helping to better support victims, reduce recidivism, and foster rehabilitation and reintegration for those who have been involved in crimes
  • Understand and access the right interventions and supports to prevent violence and substance misuse

Our Approach

A Focus on Evidence and Partnership

Our experts work with you to identify evidence and use data to inform decision-making. We conduct policy-relevant studies and incorporate a systems approach when providing technical assistance.

We work in partnership to ensure that our approach meets the identified needs of the communities we serve and that our efforts have a sustained positive impact.

With leading nationwide experience and expertise in research and technical assistance across public health and justice systems, we provide rapid support to national, state, and local leaders seeking non-partisan, balanced information and assistance to identify, develop, implement, and evaluate innovative solutions to critical needs.
