WestEd Research Associate Christine Snyder will present with educational leaders at the 2024 California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE 2024) conference, held February 21–24 in Anaheim, California.
This year’s conference theme is Strength in Unity: Embracing the Tapestry of Our Diversity, Cultivating Our Heritage, & Celebrating Our Multilingualism.
The conference offers educators from California hundreds of workshops and institutes that focus on strategies for Biliteracy and English Learner programs for pre-K, elementary, and secondary classrooms.
Snyder will present with leaders from San Dieguito Union High School District and San Diego County Office of Education on English language development (ELD).

Workshop Session: Community-Engaged Professional Learning for ELD: San Diego County Office of Education and WestEd’s 2023–2024 Culturally Sustaining ELD Collaborative

In this session, participants will learn about an innovative, community-engaged approach to professional learning titled the Culturally Sustaining Secondary ELD Collaborative. In 2023–2024, San Diego County Office of Education, in collaboration with WestEd, is integrating site-based teams of teachers, administrators, parents, and community members in a yearlong cycle of inquiry focused on asset-oriented designated and integrated ELD. Participants will view video highlights of professional learning activities and engage in conversations with presenters and other participants around partnering with family and community members to promote equitable outcomes for multilingual learners.
