(Past Event) Tracy Huebner and Michael Savoy to Present at the Council of the Great City Schools’ 62nd Annual Fall Conference

Tracy and Michael

Tracy Huebner, Director of the Center for the Future of Teaching and Learning (CFTL) at WestEd, and Michael Savoy, National Coaching Manager at Teach Plus, will present at the Council of the Great City Schools’ 62nd Annual Fall Conference, October 24–28, in Baltimore, Maryland.

This year’s theme is “Building a Generation: Blueprints for Success in Urban Education.” Hosted by the Baltimore City Public Schools, the event offers school superintendents, board members, senior administrators, and college deans of education an opportunity to share best practices that can help improve teaching and learning.

Huebner and Savoy will discuss critical supports needed for implementing and sustaining effective teacher-led professional learning. Their session is informed by the work of CFTL’s Teacher Practice Networks (TPN), an initiative that supports nearly 800 teacher leaders across urban schools in New York City, Los Angeles, Birmingham, and Boston in leading 12,000 colleagues in high-quality, teacher-led professional learning on standards-aligned instructional practices.

A recent survey of TPN teachers and teacher leaders found overwhelming growth in practitioner confidence, leadership capacity, and efficacy to improve instructional practices of peers, which studies show increase teacher retention and improve school culture.

The session, Teacher Leadership Works: Paving the Way for Teacher-Led Professional Learning, will be held on October 25, from 9:15 am to 10:30 am, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel.
