WestEd Presenter: Julie Kurtz
Session: Passing the Torch: Increasing Access to Support the Whole Child From Birth to Five
Date: Tuesday, October 16, 2018
Time: 2:15-3:45pm (PT)
Location: Hyatt Regency San Francisco, 5 Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, CA
Panel Description:
Adversity and trauma impact very young children in ways that threaten their brain development and physical wellbeing beyond their childhood. But nurturing relationships with at least one caring adult can help children build resiliency in later years, so it is important that parents and caregivers get the information and resources they need when it matters most. This deceptively simple mandate presents a challenge for many communities: How do we get these tools and valuable information into the hands of caregivers? And what are the best strategies to ensure broad access and take-up?
Participants in this breakout session will hear from nationally recognized experts who are helping parents and caregivers around the country provide young children exposed to trauma with the skills they need to succeed. Speakers will model resources and approaches, and participants will then participate directly in an interactive exercise designed to utilize peer learning and best practices to solve current community problems.
