(Past Event) WestEd’s Lupita Cortez Alcalá Will Give the Keynote Address at the 2023 CALSA Women’s Leadership Symposium

Lupita Cortez Alcalá, Director of Education Policy & Outcomes at WestEd, will give the keynote address at the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA) Women’s Leadership Symposium. The Symposium will be on March 31-April 1st at the Hyatt Regency in San Francisco, California. The keynote address will be held on Saturday, April 1st, at 8:45 a.m., Pacific Time.

CALSA is a community of diverse educational leaders skilled in addressing the needs of Latino/a students and dedicated to increasing the number of highly effective Latino/a administrators. The theme of the Symposium is “Leading Brilliantly: Finding the Gems of Inspiration Through Bonding, Building, and Bridging.”

Lupita Cortez AlcalaLupita Cortez Alcalá has 20 years of experience championing better educational outcomes for the children and adults of California and more than a decade in government affairs for pre-K–12 and higher education.

Most recently, Alcalá served as the first Latina Chief Deputy Superintendent for the California Department of Education. She has also been Executive Director of the California Student Aid Commission, becoming a prominent voice in the statewide discussion on college affordability and financial aid reform. Alcalá also served as member and chair of the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls.

She has helped promote and implement programs for early education, English learners, migrant students, career pathways, Linked Learning, workforce, and STEM. Her leadership in these areas included partnering with pre-K–12 and higher education leaders, policymakers, and foundations.
