WestEd science and engineering experts will present at the National Science Education Leadership Association’s (NSELA) 2024 Leadership Summit in Denver, Colorado, on March 20, 2024.
This year’s theme is Elevating All Students in Science: Reaching New Heights for Equity and Instruction. NSELA’s goal for this event is to “empower educators and leaders with the knowledge, tools, and inspiration to ensure that every student has the opportunity to excel in the field of science.”

Session: Characteristics of Successful Leadership Teams

In this interactive session, participants will learn about the importance of leadership teams to support equitable science learning opportunities for all students. They will explore the characteristics of effective leadership teams and considerations for developing a team.
Session: Centering Equity and Inclusion in a District’s Science Curriculum Work
Lead Presenter: Karen Lionberger and Nico Janik
Ensuring that the science curriculum supports more inclusive classroom practices—those that catalyze a sense of STEM identity and belonging for all learners—can result in positive achievement and growth, especially for marginalized learners. This session will engage leaders in learning key principles of Universal Design for Learning and what type of instructional strategies lead to authentic equity and inclusion in science classrooms.
