WestEd’s Tracy Huebner, Director of Innovations for Advancing Teaching and Learning at WestEd and co-author of Strategies for Encouraging Effective Technology-Enabled Instructional Practices in K–12 Education, will present at ISTE Live 23 in Philadelphia.

ISTE Live 23 is hosted by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). This year’s conference theme is Discover Your Next Idea, Collaboration, Inspiration, Favorite Tech Tool, and Adventure.

Huebner’s session will illuminate the gap in the current framework landscape and how embracing “technology-enabled instruction” helps educators reach the space where technology is most adaptable for impacting instruction.

Drawing from research and examples from practitioners in the field, she will articulate five research-identified benefits of technology-enabled instruction and discuss how school and district leaders can help support teachers in their technology-enabled instructional practice.

The five key insights explored in this session include:

  • Effective technology-enabled teaching requires consideration of both instructional practices and technology integration strategies.
  • Technology can provide benefits in helping enable better learning outcomes as part of effective technology-enabled instructional practices—not simply on its own.
  • Barriers to effective technology-enabled instructional practices exist at both the personal and system levels.
  • Teachers’ beliefs and attitudes about pedagogy and technology play a role in whether and how teachers deploy practices associated with technology-enabled instruction
  • School and district leaders play an essential role in supporting teachers’ technology-enabled instruction in several ways.
