(Past Event) WestEd at the 2019 California Science Education Conference in San Jose, California

Staff from WesEd’s K–12 Alliance, NGSS Early Implementers, and Making Sense of SCIENCE (MSS) will offer workshops at the California Science Teachers Association’s Science Education Conference, October 18–20, at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose, California.

This is the only conference dedicated to meeting the unique needs of California TK–12 science teachers, providing opportunities to gain practical skills for incorporating Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) into curriculum.

WestEd’s K–12 Alliance and NGSS K–8 Early Implementers Initiative are proud to be Conference Partner Strand Providers and will facilitate an extensive schedule of short and long workshops throughout the weekend.

Workshop: Classroom Innovations: Resources & Lessons Learned From Science PLCs

Explore PLC resources that you can use back at your school and district. Hear from district science leaders about how they have used Classroom Innovations PLC materials to help bolster NGSS implementation in their local contexts.

Workshop: Navigating District NGSS Implementation: A Coach’s & Coordinator Perspective

Science coaches and NGSS Coordinators from three Central Valley school districts talk about experiences navigating their districts in support of new standards implementation. Speakers will share lessons learned in developing teams and plans for NGSS implementation efforts.

Workshop: Supporting Science Instruction for District/Site/Teacher Leaders
Date: Sunday, October 20
Time & Location: 9:45am – 11:15am / Room 210H

Engaging leaders is an essential part of implementing the NGSS. Learn how a Central Valley district did this with their principals. Participants in this course will leave with the materials needed to host two 3-hour PL sessions for administrators.
