Johanna Barmore is a Senior Program Associate at WestEd. Drawing on her expertise in job-embedded professional learning, she partners with districts and schools to develop and sustain routine school-based practices that support improvements in curriculum, instruction, and student achievement.
Barmore has supported school and district improvement efforts by providing training and coaching to school leaders, instructional coaches, and classroom teachers. She is an instructional expert and designs and provides professional learning around a range of classroom practices, including standards-based curriculum and instruction, discourse routines, mathematics pedagogy, and formative assessment. Furthermore, Johanna collaborates with school leaders to create internal systems to support continuous improvement, including instructional coaching, data-driven inquiry, and professional learning communities (PLCs).
Barmore is committed to building sustained and collaborative partnerships with district leaders. She has worked across the spectrum of schools, including rural, urban, private, charter, and traditional public schools. She is adaptive and responsive to the local needs of her partners.
In addition to partnering with schools, Johanna has also led projects for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Education Lab and the Region 2 Comprehensive Center.
Prior to joining WestEd, Barmore was a Mathematics Curriculum oordinator at Prospect Hill Charter School. Johanna earned her doctorate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education where her research focused on elementary mathematics pedagogy and how teachers learn to improve instruction through collaborative data inquiry.
