The Comprehensive School Safety Initiative at WestEd, in partnership with Georgia State University and Atlanta Public Schools, is researching and developing a method to enhance school safety. Researchers are accomplishing this through a comprehensive examination of school, district, and community factors to identify and implement interventions consistent with local needs.
The research, the data, and tools will address a variety of safety measures including student behavior improvements, emergency preparedness, school policing, and community engagement.
WestEd researchers are examining challenges of safety within the district and evaluating interventions. Among the key questions researchers will address are:
- What do school and district administrators, and community members need to know to improve school safety?
- How can they create safe and supportive learning environments for children and staff?
Research and evaluation findings will be available following the study’s completion date in December 2020.
