In October 2018, WestEd was awarded a grant to lead the national Center to Improve Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and School Safety* (the SEL Center) in a mission to build the knowledge and capacity of state and local education agencies to adopt or adapt evidence-based SEL and school safety practices and programs, and integrate them with academic learning.

The team has been busy launching the Center over the past months and is pleased to announce that the latest update to the website is complete and now live.

The SEL Center arrives at a critical time. Disparities in students’ academic and life outcomes persist, and dangers to students’ physical and emotional safety threaten the conditions children and youth need to thrive in school, career, and life.

“Our team is delighted to share this first step in engaging with the field. The website will serve as the ‘home’ of our general tier of technical assistance. We hope it becomes a place where educators at every level of the system can find high-quality tools, resources, and professional learning opportunities that are innovative, relevant, and evidence-based,” says Director, Natalie Walrond.

Visit the Center’s website to learn more and download a flyer to share with colleagues.
