WestEd’s Nicholas Catechis will present at the 2019 Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE) Conference which will take place on October 16 through October 19 at the American Bank Convention Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
This year’s conference theme is “The Power of B3: Bilingual, Biliterate, Bicultural,” which highlights the power of bilingual Latinx voices in the classroom.
Catechis’ presentation will explore how visuals such as maps, pictures, and charts can help students better understand a text. Participants will look how to choose visuals to support or extend written texts and how to guide students in analyzing and interpreting them while building their oral language skills.
The session, “Mapping a Changing World View: Designing Learning Experiences for English Learners in Social Studies” will be held on Friday, October 18 from 1:45-2:30pm in Room 104.
