In this archived session hosted by the COVID Education Equity Response Collaborative’s Equity Accelerator, Equity Accelerator Fellows reflect on their year-long experience working to achieve greater racial equity in their education systems.
From January through November 2021, The Equity Accelerator Fellowship provided an intensive cohort-based experience for pairs of California County Office of Education (COE) leaders to leverage existing efforts and priorities in their agencies to address racial equity, while continuing to build their own technical and adaptive skills to address biases, work collaboratively, and enact systemic and sustainable change. Fellows participated in monthly professional learning sessions, peer exchange sessions, and individualized coaching.
The Equity Accelerator Fellowship provided a safe space to exchange and test new ideas, engage with seasoned and emerging experts in the field, and cultivate the skills and mindsets necessary for effective leadership in today’s complex education systems.
In this recording, Project Director Christina Pate provides an overview of the learning sessions and other activities that Fellows participated in throughout the year, followed by reflections from Equity Accelerator coaches Rachelle Rodergs-Ard and Terna Tilley-Gyado. Each COE pair then provides a brief presentation of their key learnings from the Fellowship and discuss some of the challenges and successes they encountered in their work to advance racial equity in education agencies.
