Following months of planning and outreach, the California Department of Education (CDE) and WestEd, in partnership with the State Board of Education, launched the California Center for School Climate’s (CCSC) services in January 2022. This recently released report presents details from surveys and polls of individuals who received support from the CCSC.

Key Findings:

In its first six months, the CCSC provided intensive technical assistance activities, which included one-on-one support, such as coaching and consultation, thought partnership, strategic planning, and resources identification to local education agencies. The following findings represent individuals who participated in CCSC’s technical assistance activities.

  • Most participants (between 76 and 96 percent) in CCSC’s major technical assistance activities indicated that they intend to use the information or resources they received from the CCSC.
  • Eighty-seven percent of survey respondents who participated in Safe and Supportive Learning Environments (SSLE) Essentials said they could apply session strategies in their work or share them with others, and 79 percent intend to use the information or resources provided.
  • Seventy-six percent of participants intend to use the information or resources provided through the Peer Learning Exchange, which held monthly sessions for California education leaders to connect
    on timely school climate topics.
  • Ninety-one percent of survey respondents said they could apply the session strategies from the CCSC’s Data-Use Webinars in their work or share them with others, and 92 percent intend to use the information or resources provided.
