Are 6th–12th grade English Learner (EL) students in your school, district, or county receiving culturally sustaining integrated English Language Development (ELD) in all content areas? Are they receiving high-quality designated ELD that is aligned to content and responsive to students’ language learning needs?

While the California ELD Standards were adopted by the State Board of Education in 2012 and the California ELA/ELD Framework in 2014, educators have had uneven professional learning on using them to provide grade-level, culturally affirming, and engaging instruction to EL students.

In this archived webinar, Dr. Christine Snyder will share how teachers can design and implement a truly comprehensive approach to ELD, which includes integrated and designated ELD, that will benefit all students. Dr. Snyder, who works on the WestEd team led by Dr. Pam Spycher, a primary author of the ELD Standards and ELA/ELD Framework, will also address how school and district leaders can create the conditions necessary for successful implementation. This session includes videos from recent work in classrooms.

This is the first webinar in the Joyful Schooling Webinar Series.
