This recorded session is the fifth in a series of online conversations, Perspectives on English Language Learning, that highlights scholarly perspectives on the education of students who are English learners across a wide variety of settings. Led by Aída Walqui, Senior Research Scientist at WestEd, the series highlights major research advances to help educators support learning and achievement for English learners.

The session features George Bunch, Professor of Education at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His research focuses on language and literacy challenges and opportunities for students learning English as an additional language in US K–12 schools and higher education, and on policies and practices designed to serve such students. Dr. Bunch received a Midcareer Award from AERA and a Spencer Midcareer Grant for 2017–2018.  His most recent book is Amplifying the Curriculum: Designing Quality Learning Opportunities for English Learners, co-edited with Aída Walqui.
