How are principals and teachers responding to Maryland’s educator evaluation system?
This report, produced by the former Mid-Atlantic Comprehensive Center at WestEd, explores how Maryland State Department of Education’s (MSDE) educators perceive the development and implementation of the state’s teacher and principal evaluation system (TPE), particularly the support educators received in understanding and implementing student learning objectives (SLOs).
The report presents study findings based on survey responses and interviews, and offers recommendations designed to reinforce the instructional emphasis of MDSE’s TPE system, respond to legitimate concerns emerging from the field, and build on the state’s foundation of support.
